Biosafety classification is based on U.S. Public Health Service Guidelines, it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that their facilities comply with biosafety regulations for their own country. |
Disease |
leukemia |
Applications |
The cells are capable of producing large amounts of feline leukemia that has attenuated virulence for cats, but which is capable of being used for vaccine preparation. |
Disclosure |
This material is cited in a US or other Patent and may not be used to
infringe the claims. Depending on the wishes of the Depositor, ATCC may be
required to inform the Patent Depositor of the party to which the material was
furnished. This material may not have been produced or characterized by ATCC. |
Derivation |
The line was established from the lymphomatous kidney of a cat that had been inoculated with virus obtained by serial cell free passage of virus from a cat with spontaneous leukemia. |
Genes Expressed |
Feline leukemia virus (FeLV), KT-FeLV-UCD-1 strain |
Cellular Products |
Feline leukemia virus (FeLV), KT-FeLV-UCD-1 strain |
Comments |
These cells are persistently infected with the KT-FeLV-UCD-1 feline leukemia virus. The line was established from the lymphomatous kidney of a cat that had been inoculated with virus obtained by serial cell free passage of virus from a cat with spontaneous leukemia. The cells are capable of producing large amounts of feline leukemia that has attenuated virulence for cats, but which is capable of being used for vaccine preparation. |
Complete Growth Medium |
Leibovitz's L-15 medium with 2mM L-glutamine, 85%; fetal bovine serum, 15% (Note: The L-15 medium formulation was devised for use in a free gas exchange with atmospheric air. A CO2 and air mixture is detrimental to cells when using this medium for cultivation).
|
Subculturing |
Subcultivation Ratio: A subcultivation ratio of 1:4 is recommended Medium Renewal: Every 2 to 3 days Cultures can be maintained by addition or replacement of fresh medium. Start cultures at 2 X 10 exp5 cells/ml and maintain between 1 X 10 exp5 and 1 X 10 exp6 cells/ml. |
Cryopreservation |
Culture medium, 95%; DMSO, 5% |
